At the Spennymoor Town Band Annual Christmas Concert on Saturday 12th December 2009, a presentation of awards was made. Saffi Hutchinson (aged 12), was awarded the President’s Trophy for the Most Improved Player.
Long Service Awards for more than 50 Years Service to the Brass Band Movement were awarded to band stalwarts Don Lavery and Mike Johnson. These awards were made by George Bramfitt, President of the Durham County Brass Band Association.

After several years of not contesting the band have competed in the 2009 Durham Grading contest Section D. We were very pleased to have an almost full band which we felt could compete even though many players had never contested before.
We are delighted that, after a good performance we were placed in a very commendable third place.
Well done everyone involved.
